For a couple of weeks back; there is one game that has been on my mind, Valorant. Yes, Riot Games has released Valorant around a month ago and it has taken the world by a storm. Valorant it’s a fast-paced tactical shooter character-based which player divided into 2 teams with 5 members on each team. There are 2 phases in this game; Defender which defends the objectives and Attackers that attack the objective with planting the bomb (called spike). 1 game of Valorant takes a total of 12 rounds for each team and advantage scoring system if the game ties.

Valorant is like a new world for me. I am used to the character-based shooter games with my experience playing Rainbow Six Siege for 5 years and Overwatch for a while now ( i bought the game like 1–2 years ago) but Valorant is a totally different game from that. The role is more or less same with R6 Siege and Overwatch so I have no problem assimilating to this new game (I played Support role on both games, Hard Breacher on Siege and Healer/Tank on Overwatch).

I played a couple of hundred hours of Valorant realizing that the economy really makes me struggle a bit. I never played CS: GO religiously before although I had it on my account. I used to play character-based shooter like Overwatch and R6 which not relying on such a thing. On both games, we already got our own weapon based on the character that we choose, which I think simplifies the game even more.

Let's get back to Valorant, it is so interesting for me til I have 2 ID. One that in Platinum ( Mid to upper echelon rank player) and one in iron ( the lowest echelon). The reason I do something like this is that I wanted to see what is the top rank players look like and what is it like to play on the bottom rank. No, I am not intended to do a Smurfing because if I play on iron, then I will throw as much as I can and have a big laugh about it, while on the Platinum is all on full serious mode.

Comparing Siege and Valorant is really easy because 2 of them are different and yet similar game. Siege is kind of type game that, “ Medium Skill, High Decision” game; like you need to master shooting mechanic, but your main focus is you need to master the map, angle and cheesy strats to win the game. Siege environment is destructible, so you can plan your attack from upper floor by destroying the floor or you can do it from the bottom one; hanging out on the window and take an angle to cut rotation from the enemy team. All of this making Rainbow Six Siege is an interesting game to watch (not to play though… )

While Valorant is more to “ Supah High Skill, Medium Decision”; which means you need to have a good understanding of shooting mechanic and master them. Not only that you will need to master of each character abilities and use them to cheese your enemy to catch them off guard; while Map knowledge is certainly needed to play this game, but not that important compared to Siege because Map in Valorant is a more simple one compare to Siege which makes the decision a bit more simplified. The only thing that you will need to consider is economic because you will need to buy guns and abilities (Yes abilities are for sale in this game). You have to know when you need to spend money or you need to save it. Example like when you losing too much round, and you have no money; you better save your money in case you are losing as well in this round to win the next round by buying a better gun.

My friend summarized it best, Siege is a long decision and quick shooter type, while Valorant is more to a quick decision and quick shooter type. i can’t wait to see more on Valorant growth in the world and especially in Indonesia.
